Verse 18Nonduality

Śiva and Śakti as One

Bhairava

This verse says that what looks like two things—consciousness and energy—is actually one reality. Just as a fire and its heat are not really separate, Śiva and Śakti belong together. Realizing this helps you stop dividing your own awareness into pieces.

शविशविमतोयधद्वद् अभेद् सिधदा वस्थत् । अतस्तद्धमधवमधत्वात् पराशवि् परात्मन् ॥ १८ ॥

śivaśaktimato yadyad abheda-siddha-vastutāt | atastad dharma-dharmitvāt parā śaktiḥ parātmanā || 18 ||

Translation

Whatever is possessed of Śiva and Śakti is established as non-different in reality; therefore, because of the relation of attribute and possessor, the supreme Śakti is the supreme Self.

Teach that Śiva and Śakti are inseparable and that the supreme power is identical with the supreme self.
