Burnt City Contemplation
Bhairava
Here the body is imagined as a city that time has already burned down. This is not meant to depress you, but to loosen your attachment to the body and worldly identity. When that grip relaxes, a quiet, peaceful clarity can shine through.
कालाविना कालपदादुवत्थतेन स्वकं पुरम् । प्लुष्टं विवचन्तयेदन्ते शान्ताभासस्तदा भवेत् ॥ ५२ ॥
kālāvinā kālapadādutthitena svakaṃ puram | pluṣṭaṃ vivacintayedante śāntābhāsas tadā bhavet || 52 ||
Translation
One should contemplate one’s own body-city, arisen from the station of time and consumed by fire, and at the end there arises a semblance of peace. || 52 ||
Contemplate the body and world as already burned through by time so the mind releases its grasp and a शांताभास, a peaceful luminosity, appears.
