Verse 6Dialogue
Beyond Letters and Bodies
Devi
This verse says that the highest reality cannot be chopped up by letters, labels, or physical forms. If something is truly beyond parts, you should not think of it as being made of separate pieces. It is a way of clearing away limited ideas.
न हि वर्णविभेदेन देहभेदेन वा भवेत् । परत्वम् निष्कलत्वेन सकलत्वे न तद्भवेत् ॥ ६ ॥
na hi varṇa-vibhedena deha-bhedena vā bhavet | paratvaṃ niṣkalatvena sakalatve na tad bhavet || 6 ||
Translation
For supremacy cannot exist through distinctions of letters or through distinctions of bodies. If it is without parts, then it cannot be in a state of parts.
Devi argues that the ultimate cannot be divided by language or embodied form if it is truly supreme.
